MindLab

End of October:
Nearly at the end of the MindLab journey.  I wish I'd had time to record more!
I'm also currently in the process of completing the final paperwork for my attestation and appraisal. As part of this I've creating a link to a table of contents of our PostGrad papers and assignments.
I thought it would be a great thing to link here too.
Check it out.

Gamification

Really interested in this.  Talked today about:

  • Rewards
  • Challenge
  • Levels
  • Fun
  • Escapism etc

On doing a bit of extra research I found this:

Really interested in trying some of these out!

Suggestion: 10 times for Flipped Classroom Learning

MindLab assignment two for Digital and Collaborative Leadership in Context.
The brief was to identify a digital and collaborative learner innovation that would allow me to address the challenge in my current teaching practice that I'd identified in DCL assignment 1.  This involved a lot of research, though I'm worried that a video doesn't demonstrate this very well.
I enjoyed this immensely, but do worry that it's not as in-depth as I'd like it to be.
I guess we'll see.

MindLab assignment two - this was for Leadership.  Using PowToons was seriously challenging and I'm not as happy with the finished product as I was with my first assignment, so I'm not sure what mark I'll end up getting.  I guess I'll see.  I still learned loads by the time I researched Transformational Leadership (among others), wrote an essay, created the PowToon, used ScreenCast to record it and WeVideo to mash it before publishing on YouTube.  Phew!

Mindlab Assignment One: Current Teaching Challenges.
This was fun! I'm learning so much by forcing myself to submit in video format and this was no exception.  Using Google Slides, We Video, ScreenCast and YouTube meant I learned loads!  It must have showed as I got a great mark and was asked to add my video to the portal as an example so that's encouraging.

So 'Learner Agency'.  It's going to be a great journey!

MindLab will mean a wonderful opportunity for teachers in Auckland, Wellington and Gisborne.  We are lucky enough to have a MindLab coming here and myself and many of my colleagues have signed up for the challenge of undertaking the:
Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Practice (Digital and Collaborative Learning)
 How exciting!
The most exciting part of this for me is that the central premise to MindLab education is about engaging and motivating students in the classroom.  My own personal Inquiry is relevant to this, as is the work I do as Co-Leader of e-Learning at Gisborne Intermediate.  So in 2015, everything I do is tied into this idea of motivation and engagement in the classroom.  Now that, is exciting!

  1. Today we got emails about the time commitment necessary for MindLab. So great to hear something from them as we were all starting to wonder what was happening with it. Seems we are due to start in March. Exciting! #engagement
